Austria is experiencing a severe heat wave affecting roads and railways

Austria recorded a new record in temperatures, after it rose to 40.1 degrees Celsius in the city of Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, in the east of the country in the state of Lower Austria, recording the highest temperature ever in the country during the month of June.

Austria is witnessing an early and strong heat wave that began at the beginning of this week, and reached its peak yesterday in the city of Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, where temperatures exceeded the levels of last weekend, which reached 39.3 degrees last Saturday, before rising to 40 degrees last Sunday.

The exceptional heat wave pushed the infrastructure in various sectors in Austria to its limits, as some areas of the capital, Vienna, witnessed power outages, due to the severe dryness of the ground resulting from high temperatures, which caused increased pressure on the buried high-voltage cables.

Cracks appeared in the surface of the Western Expressway, and the intense heat wave caused the bending of railway tracks and distortion of tram tracks, which led to the temporary closure of some lines and a reduction in the speed of trains.
