Implementing traffic improvements in 28 locations in the emirate during the summer

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has begun implementing a package of rapid traffic improvements in 28 locations in various regions of the Emirate of Dubai in the period from July to September 2026, confirming the continuation of its ongoing efforts to enhance the road network, raise its operational efficiency, streamline traffic and safety levels, and improve connectivity between residential and educational areas and development areas, which supports the rapid urban and population growth witnessed by the emirate.
The works include 4 sites in school zones, 3 sites in development areas, and 21 sites in various locations in the Emirate of Dubai, where their implementation was scheduled during the summer vacation to take advantage of the decrease in traffic volumes, accelerate the pace of completion, and reduce the impacts on road users.
The Emirates Road expansion project, adding two new lanes with a length of 5 km on the section extending from the Emirate of Sharjah towards Al Amradi Street, is the most prominent traffic improvement project being implemented during the summer, given the importance of the street as one of the main axes linking Dubai to the neighboring emirates, and the high traffic density it witnesses during peak periods. The expansion is expected to contribute to reducing traffic congestion and reducing travel time by 25% during peak times on this vital axis.
The works also include implementing traffic improvements at the intersection of Trade Center Street and Marasi Drive Street in the Business Bay area, improving traffic movement on Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area, in addition to developing traffic movement on Ras Al Khor Street towards Al Khail Road, which will raise the efficiency of the intersections and enhance the flow of movement in a number of vital areas, which are witnessing an increasing growth in traffic movement.
The projects include improvement works near residential areas as well, which are: adding a new lane at the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street with Al Amradi Street, expanding the right turn on Ras Al Khor Street towards Dubai – Al Ain Road from one lane to two lanes, in addition to expanding a traffic lane on Algeria Street in the fourth Al Mizhar area before the entrance to the workers’ housing, which contributes to raising capacity, reducing waiting queues, and improving vehicle movement in those locations.
In preparation for the new academic year and enhancing traffic safety in the vicinity of educational institutions, the Authority is implementing new parking lots for the Zayed Educational Complex in the second Mizhar area, in addition to creating additional parking lots for the Horizon International School in the Umm Al Sheif area, in addition to other improvements that contribute to organizing vehicle movement, facilitating the entry and exit of vehicles, and reducing traffic congestion during school peak times.
The Authority confirmed that the selection of sites for traffic improvements is carried out according to specialized technical and field studies based on the analysis of traffic data, the results of field surveys, and data from intelligent transportation systems and surveillance cameras. The Authority also benefits from the public’s comments and suggestions received through various communication channels to implement quick and effective solutions that contribute to increasing the efficiency and flow of movement, reducing travel time, and improving the transportation experience for all road users.
