Emirates Airlines is the first carrier to operate a Boeing 777 aircraft converted from passengers to cargo

Emirates Airlines has achieved a new milestone in its plans to expand its cargo fleet, after it became the first air cargo carrier to operate a Boeing 777-300ERSF aircraft converted from a passenger aircraft to a freighter aircraft.

The plane began its commercial operations with a flight from Dubai to Hong Kong, during which it transported 100 tons of cargo.

The new aircraft provides a cargo capacity of up to 100 tons, and a total cargo volume of 811 cubic metres, an increase of 25% in cargo volume compared to the originally produced Boeing 777F freighter aircraft. The converted aircraft also includes 47 cargo pallets, that is, ten more cargo pallets compared to the Boeing 777F, which makes it particularly suitable for transporting large-sized shipments, such as e-commerce goods, which currently constitute about 20% of the total cargo volume. Atmospheric conditions globally, with expectations of further growth in the coming years.

Badr Abbas, Emirates Senior Vice President of Cargo, said: “The entry of the first Boeing 777-300ERSF converted into a freighter into the Emirates fleet represents a new stage in our efforts to enhance the efficiency of our operational assets and increase the flexibility of our operations. We are working to make optimal use of our fleet assets by converting older Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from passengers to freighters, in line with the growing demand for air cargo capacities to transport goods quickly and efficiently to various parts of the world.”

He added: By relying on our growing fleet of Boeing 777F freighter aircraft, we have already been able to expand the network of global freighter flights from more than 40 destinations last February to 62 destinations currently, with continued expansion.

The converted Boeing 777-300ERSF is the sixth new freighter aircraft to join the Emirates SkyCargo fleet since March 2026, after 5 Boeing aircraft. 777F is for shipping.

As part of the ambitious expansion strategy, Emirates SkyCargo will receive 5 additional Boeing 777F aircraft by the end of the year, and Emirates SkyCargo will add 3 converted Boeing 777-300ERSF aircraft to its fleet in 2027.
