Leaders of the German ruling coalition agree on a reform package

Berlin, July 2, 2017 – Leaders of the ruling coalition in Germany reached an agreement on a package of reforms, during a meeting held on Wednesday, with details to be revealed on Thursday.
The agreement came after lengthy discussions between the conservative bloc of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, which includes the Christian Democratic Union, its Bavarian ally, the Christian Social Union, and the Social Democratic Party, which belongs to the center-left movement.
The ruling coalition has spent the past months preparing a broad reform package, aimed at strengthening the social security system in Germany, providing tax breaks to families, as well as supporting efforts to revive the largest economy in Europe, after a long period of slow economic growth.
