Passing the retake tests does not raise the grade… and the “lower finish” proves success

The Ministry of Education has specified, within the approved student evaluation controls, the mechanism for calculating the results of the retake test for grades four to twelfth, stressing that the student who passes the test will be assigned the minimum prescribed for success in the subject, regardless of the actual score he achieved in the retake test.

The Ministry stated in the frequently asked questions guide for the results of the end of the academic year and student evaluation, which Emirates Today reviewed, that the results of the retake test are calculated for students in the first and second cycles as a score of 50 in the subject after passing the retake test, while for students in the third cycle a score of 60 is assigned, as the minimum approved limit for success, (without taking into account any higher score that the student may obtain in the test).

She explained that for twelfth grade students, the minimum final grade for the subject that the student passed in the retake test is added to the total score, and is included in the calculation of the general average recorded in the study completion certificate, ensuring completion of the requirements for success and graduation in accordance with the approved system.

Group “A” subjects determine the student’s total and grade point average

Regarding the mechanism for calculating grades for the completion certificate for twelfth grade students, the annual grade for each subject is calculated according to the weights approved for school assessments and central assessments during the semesters.

The student’s final total consists of the sum of his grades in Group “A” subjects, and the results of these subjects appear in the certificate in numbers and letters, while the general average is calculated by dividing the student’s final total by the number of subjects in the same group.

As for Group “B” subjects, they are subject to school evaluations, and their results are included in the certificate in letters, but they are not included in the final grade or general average of the student, which makes Group “A” subjects the basis for determining the final result and graduation rate.

She stressed that passing the retake test does not mean accrediting the student’s full grade, but rather proving his success at the minimum level set for the academic stage, in a way that achieves consistency in the application of evaluation criteria and maintains justice among students.

On the other hand, strict procedures are applied to cases of cheating during the retake test, as the student receives a zero grade in the subject subject to the violation, and remains to repeat the grade, in clear confirmation that the opportunity to repeat represents an organized academic path to address academic failure, and is not an opportunity to bypass the rules of integrity and discipline.
