The Board of Directors of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union approves new memberships

Sharjah, July 14, 2017 – The Board of Directors of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union, in its meeting held at its headquarters at the Sharjah Book Authority, approved the membership committee’s recommendations to approve granting union membership to a number of Emirati writers and writers residing in the UAE, based on the reports and opinions submitted by the committee regarding membership applications, which it approved in its meeting held on July 7 of this month.

Sheikha Al-Mutairi, Secretary General and Head of the Union’s Membership Committee, explained that the committee decided to accept applications for membership that met the conditions, and included approval to grant working membership to the storyteller Maha Buhaliqa, the novelist and storyteller Najiba Muhammad Al-Rifai, the poet Zainab Amer Omar Hamad Al-Hadrami, the storyteller and novelist Sarah Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Ahmed, the novelist Khaled Ahmed Al-Nuaimi, and the storyteller Muhammad Yusef Zainal Hassan Abdullah.

The Council also agreed to grant membership to the Syrian poet Ahlam Haitham Banawi, the Syrian storyteller and novelist Rana Kamal Al-Asali, the Egyptian poet and critic Muhammad Muhammad Muhammad Abdou Issa, the Egyptian writer Mahmoud Bakri Al-Amin, and the Syrian poet Ahmed Abdel Fattah Al-Qassab, after they fulfill the conditions and standards approved for membership in the Union.

The adoption of these memberships comes within the framework of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union’s keenness to attract literary and creative energies and enhance its cultural presence by expanding its member base, which contributes to supporting the literary and cultural movement in the country, and allowing writers and writers to participate in the programmes, events and initiatives organized by the Union, in a way that serves the Emirati cultural scene and enhances its position.

In this context, Sheikha Al Jabri, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union, confirmed that the Union pays great attention to expanding its membership base and attracting literary and creative talents, from citizens and residents of the Emirates, who possess distinguished literary experiences that contribute to enriching the national cultural scene.

She pointed out that the Union is keen to open its doors to creative people who meet the membership requirements, out of belief in their role in supporting the literary movement and promoting cultural mobility, in line with the Union’s mission and goals in nurturing writers and writers and enabling them to participate effectively in its cultural programs and initiatives.
