المملكة: With “CRISPR” technology.. the Kingdom signs an agreement to localize gene therapies

The Ministry of Health signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the international pharmaceutical company Vertex, with the participation of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Investment on the sidelines of the CPHI Middle East exhibition.
The agreement aims to accelerate the implementation of the National Biotechnology Strategy and localize genetic and cell therapy technologies in the Kingdom using advanced CRISPR technology.

Localization of gene therapies

The agreement represents a qualitative leap towards achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which includes establishing an advanced manufacturing facility for gene and cell therapies with investments exceeding one billion Saudi riyals.
The agreement also seeks to strengthen the research and development system in the Kingdom, increase the number of clinical trials, in addition to developing training programs directed to prepare Saudi competencies to become capable of leading the biotechnology sector globally.
The partnership embodies the Kingdom’s commitment to becoming a regional and global center in the field of gene and cell therapies, with a focus on innovation and scientific development to provide modern medical solutions to patients locally and internationally.
