A march targeting an atomic energy vehicle near the Zaporizhya nuclear plant
Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said that an agency vehicle was seriously damaged due to a drone attack on the road leading to the Zaporizhya nuclear power plant in Ukraine on Tuesday.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has experts permanently stationed at the Russian-occupied nuclear power plant, located near the front line, to monitor the situation.
Teams are replaced on a regular basis, and the drone attack occurred during the last regular rotation.
Safety and security of nuclear plants
“As Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, I condemn in the strongest terms this attack on IAEA employees,” Grossi said in a video statement posted on the social media site X.
He added: “An attack on a nuclear power plant is completely unacceptable, and an attack on those who care about the safety and security of these plants is even more unacceptable.”
He called for “utmost restraint.”
Security of nuclear power plants
Russia launched a series of attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure at the end of last November.
The International Atomic Energy Agency warned that this endangers the security of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
She pointed out that the cooling systems in these stations depend on continuous power supplies.
The International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors is scheduled to hold an extraordinary meeting on Thursday.
Two people were killed in Zaporizhya
At least two people were killed and 16 others were injured on Tuesday, following a Russian missile strike that destroyed a private clinic in the city of Zaporizhya, a toll likely to rise, according to the authorities.
Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said on his account on the Telegram application that the attack occurred in the afternoon and targeted “civilian infrastructure” in the center of the city of Zaporizhya.
Fedorov explained on Ukrainian television that he had initially given a toll of 3 dead, and later revised it to two dead after doctors were able to revive a person.
It was believed that 6 people were under the rubble, and 16 people were injured, including 9 women, according to the latest police tally.
