"Dubai Electricity" Provides 740 charging points for electric vehicles

Dubai, December 14 / WAM / Dubai Electricity and Water Authority announced today that it has provided a wide network of green charger stations for electric vehicles, including about 740 charging points throughout Dubai, which supports the steady growth witnessed by the emirate in the adoption of electric vehicles, the number of which has reached more than Of 34,970 vehicles in October 2024.

Customers can locate charging stations through the Authority’s website and smart application, in addition to 14 other digital platforms.

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that the “Green Charger” initiative for electric vehicles, which was launched by the Authority in 2014, aims to provide a pioneering infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations to keep pace with the steady increase in the number of electric vehicles in Dubai, while The UAE aims to increase the proportion of electric vehicles to 50% of the total existing vehicles by 2050.

He added that the Authority recently launched the comprehensive framework to regulate and license the development and operation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the Emirate of Dubai, which represents an important step in the process of supporting green mobility and achieving Dubai’s goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

It is noteworthy that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority granted the first two licenses to operate independent electric vehicle charging stations in Dubai to the companies “Emirates Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” and “Tesla”.

The network of “green charger” stations includes ultra-fast charger stations, fast charger stations, in addition to public place chargers and wall chargers.

16,828 customers benefited from the initiative’s services from 2014 until the end of September 2024, as the Authority provided about 31,674 megawatt hours of electricity for electric vehicles.
