conference "Cities of heritage" Recommends preserving the cultural identity of Arab cities

Sharjah, December 19 / WAM / The “First Heritage Conference,” which was held in Sharjah under the slogan “Heritage Cities in the Arab World,” recommended preserving the cultural identity of Arab cities.

The conference, which was organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage in the heritage area in the heart of Sharjah and lasted for three days, attracted an elite group of experts and specialists from various Arab countries to discuss issues related to cultural identity and heritage cities in the Arab world, the challenges of urban heritage, and the prospects for preserving it in light of the current changes.

At the conclusion of the conference activities, the participants stressed the importance of turning it into an established annual tradition concerned with raising a number of fundamental issues related to authentic Arab cities, while emphasizing the necessity of documenting the tangible and intangible heritage of these cities and documenting all efforts made in confronting the challenges facing heritage cities in the Arab world.

The participants recommended that the conference proceedings be printed and published in both paper and electronic formats to ensure their access to a wide range of researchers and interested parties, in addition to unifying the standards and efforts of documentation, preservation and restoration of the heritage of ancient Arab cities. It was also proposed to create an electronic portal within the Sharjah Heritage Institute website aimed at collecting data related to ancient Arab cities and exchanging Experiences and data about it.

The recommendations also included launching a field research project to collect and document the tangible and intangible heritage of the Arab city, in addition to creating an annotated bibliographic inventory of heritage, anthropological and historical studies on Arab cities, and benefiting from the scientific material presented at the conference to prepare a comprehensive encyclopedia on traditional architecture in Arab cities that highlights its aesthetic and functional elements, which ensures the strengthening of Research and documentation efforts that contribute to preserving this heritage for future generations.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, President of the Sharjah Heritage Institute, confirmed that the “Cities of Heritage” conference reflected the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which places heritage at the heart of its development and cultural efforts. The conference succeeded in achieving its goals by highlighting Highlighting the importance of heritage cities as a cultural reserve that expresses the identity and history of peoples.

He pointed out that the Sharjah Heritage Institute will work to implement the recommendations issued by the conference, which include strengthening regional and international cooperation, adopting innovative technologies in the restoration of heritage cities, and creating interactive platforms that bring together experts and youth to exchange knowledge and experiences.
