Mohammed bin Rashid congratulates award-winning architect Sahel Al Hiyari "Geniuses of the Arabs 2024" In the architecture and design category

Dubai, December 27 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, congratulated the architectural designer Sahel Al Hiyari for winning the “Geniuses of the Arabs 2024” award in the architecture and design category.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, in a post on his Highness’s account on the “X” platform: “We congratulate the winner of the Arab Geniuses Award in the Architecture and Design category for the year 2024, the architect Sahel Al-Hiyari from Jordan, where he was inspired by the beauty of nature and the depth of heritage. The engineer presents Sahel Al-Hiyari designs that combine heritage and modernity, identity and nature… He created many distinctive architectural projects, participated in teaching architecture and presented his research and work in the most prominent international universities… The Arab world has a legacy Great in the field of architecture… Our architectural projects in every Arab country tell the stories of civilization and the status that we have built throughout history.”
His Highness stressed that Arab architecture has enriched human civilization through the unique styles and designs it has presented throughout history, and that there are many outstanding Arab talents, including architects and designers, that deserve support, empowerment and appreciation.
The “Arab Geniuses” award honors distinguished Arab names with qualitative achievements in six vital categories: medicine, economics, natural sciences, engineering and technology, architecture and design, and literature and arts. The largest Arab award for the second consecutive session celebrates what Arab innovators have achieved for humanity in these disciplines.
Jordanian architect Sahel Al-Hiyari, who won the title of “Geniuses of the Arabs” in the architecture and design category, is distinguished by combining innovative modern design with traditional Arab stonework, and mixing contemporary architectural elements with the historical context, to create spaces that multiply the echoes of architecture to include dimensions of culture.
Al-Hiyari strengthened the presence of Arab stone architecture from Jordan in international circles, and his unique style created an interactive dialogue between terrain and architecture, through its flexible formal and spatial response that is harmonious and integrated with the natural environment.
The architect, Sahel Al Hiyari, is multi-talented in the disciplines of architecture and design. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, and a master’s degree in architecture in urban design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He also conducted postgraduate studies at the University of Columbia’s School of Architecture. Venice.
He lectured at prestigious colleges and universities in the disciplines of architecture and design around the world, including Columbia and Harvard Universities in the United States of America, the University of Venice in Italy, the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, the American University of Beirut, and the University of Science and Technology in Jordan.
Al Hiyari’s work covers a wide range of design-related disciplines, including urban design, architectural installations, interior design, and exhibition design.
His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the “Geniuses of the Arabs” initiative, informed architect Sahel Al-Hiyari of his winning of the “Geniuses of the Arabs 2024” award in the architecture and design category.
In a video call with him, he noted the unique artistic formula he created by combining architecture, fine arts, and urban design, to form today a model followed by young Arab architects who want to leave a mark on the region in the global urban landscape.
His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi said that the “Geniuses of the Arabs” project, which was founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” is a strategic project that highlights the capabilities, capabilities and creativity of the Arab human being, and the pioneers of architecture and design are an integral part of this project. This Arab project is the largest of its kind.
The head of the initiative’s Supreme Committee, the architect Sahel Al-Hiyari, addressed him by saying: “We are proud of what you have accomplished, in giving architectural design a new spirit, and contributing to enriching the global art scene with creativity that reflects the authentic beauty of Arab culture and Arab architecture that combines the local component and human heritage.”
His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi called on Arab youth to benefit from the experiences of Arab geniuses to transform challenges into opportunities and dreams into achievements.
The committee in the Architecture and Design category was chaired by Professor Hashem Sarkis, Dean of the School of Engineering and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and its members included Dr. Adrian Lahoud, Dean of the School of Architecture at the Royal College of Arts, and Professor Ali Malkawi, Director of the Harvard Green Building Center.
The “Arab Geniuses” initiative, which has become the “Arab Nobel,” works to highlight the inspiring achievements of exceptional Arab minds, publicize their impact on the process of development and human civilization to expand it, and motivate more Arab youth and emerging Arab talents to follow the example of the distinguished Arab geniuses.
For the second year in a row, the award, the largest of its kind in the Arab world, continued to record a qualitative turnout and a large volume of nomination requests from individuals and institutions for scientific, cognitive and creative positions, which became a role model for young Arab cadres of perseverance and dedication in order to enhance the Arab role in the cultural and human knowledge heritage.
