The Secretary-General calls for learning from the lessons of previous health emergencies to prepare for future ones

This came in his message on the occasion International Day of Epidemic Preparedness Which falls on December 27th.
The Secretary-General said that the Covid-19 pandemic was a wake-up call to alert the world, adding that… “This crisis may have passed, but the harsh lesson remains that the world is woefully unprepared for the next pandemic. Outbreaks of monkeypox, cholera, polio and Marburg fever are a terrible reminder that infectious diseases remain a real and present danger.” “on every country”.
He pointed out that benefiting from the lessons learned means building public and primary health care systems capable of confronting and fulfilling the promise of universal health coverage, making bold investments in monitoring, detecting and responding to pandemics, and ensuring equitable access to life-saving tools such as vaccines, treatments and diagnostics. He explained that this also primarily means solidarity at the global level.
He called on the two countries to implement the historic agreement on pandemics to ensure that the entire world works better to prevent and contain future pandemics.
