Statistics from the General Authority for Transport revealed that the number of motorcycles for order delivery activity reached 8,837 bikes in the third quarter of 2024, a growth of approximately 48% over the second quarter, in which the number of motorcycles reached 5,956.
In recent years, the delivery sector in the Kingdom has witnessed growth in this method to meet the increasing demand in light of the increasing reliance on smart applications in delivery services.

Regulating the order delivery sector

The General Transport Authority has issued a number of regulatory decisions in the delivery sector, aiming to control and govern the sector and raise the efficiency of drivers and services provided, in addition to increasing the level of reliability and safety.
It included obligating non-Saudis to work through light transport companies gradually within 14 months, in addition to implementing a number of possibilities, including allowing advertisements on light transport vehicles in coordination with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing.
It also included determining the controls for the use of motorcycles in order delivery activity in coordination with the General Traffic Department, and requiring companies operating in the activity to implement the face verification feature for their drivers through a system directly linked to the General Authority for Transport. The decisions also included adopting a uniform for non-Saudis working in order delivery activity.

The authority explained that there are gradual stages to implement these decisions in regulating the order delivery sector, as it will begin to activate the delivery of orders to non-Saudi drivers through light transport companies, while continuing to allow self-employment for citizens and gradually preventing non-Saudis from self-employment depending on the regions.
In addition to implementing decision-making capabilities that include setting controls for the use of motorcycles to deliver orders, applying uniforms for workers in the activity, and allowing advertisements on light transport vehicles.
The Authority confirmed that these decisions, in their entirety, aim to effectively regulate and govern the order delivery sector, in addition to motivating Saudis to work in this activity, so that this contributes to increasing job opportunities and developing the services provided in the field to become more effective and efficient and meet the expectations of beneficiaries, in order to achieve the objectives of the strategy.
