"Sharjah Arabic Poetry" Launches Monday

SHARJAH, 1st JANUARY / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the activities of the twenty-first session of the Sharjah Arab Poetry Festival will begin during the period from 6 to 12 January at the Palace of Culture, with the participation of more than 70 male and female poets, critics and media figures representing Arab countries and a number of African countries.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Sharjah Department of Culture, said that the Sharjah Arab Poetry Festival has enhanced the creative presence over the course of 21 sessions and constituted an important cultural act in the Arab cultural arena. This importance is based on the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to support Arab poets and encourage them towards more. Produced by authentic Arabic poetry.
He added that the current session witnesses the participation of more than 70 creative people from various Arab countries, united by Sharjah’s love of the word, and in addition to the poetry readings, the festival includes a corner for the signing of poetry collections by a group of creative people, and Arab readers are presented with 12 new names of winners in the third session of the Golden Rhymes Award. They contributed. With their poetic creativity in Al-Qawafi magazine during 12 issues for the year 2024, the festival is accompanied by an intellectual symposium entitled “Arabic Poetry from “Consistency to Transformation” so that the public can learn, through a collection of critical research and studies, about the most prominent issues related to Arabic poetry.
He pointed out that the current session will honor two poets with the Sharjah Prize for Arab Poetry in its “13th” session, who contributed with their creative production to supplying the Arab library with many remarkable poetic works. They are the poet Talal Al-Junaibi (UAE) and the poet Hussein Al-Abdullah (Syria).
Al Owais pointed out the participation of African poets representing the countries of Senegal, Mali, Niger and Chad, stressing that hosting poets from African countries indicates the opening of the festival to new poetic horizons and the strengthening of Arab poetry forums in Africa.
The opening ceremony includes a recording performance entitled “Houses of Poetry,” Ten Years of Giving, and poetry readings by the poet Talal Al-Junaibi (the Emirates), the poet Hussein Al-Abdullah (Syria), and the poet Talal Al-Salti (Oman), in addition to honoring the winners of the fourth session of the Sharjah Poetry Criticism Award. The Arab team is Fathi bin Belkacem Nasri from Tunisia in first place, Dr. Ahmed Jarallah Yassin from Iraq in second place, and Ibrahim Al-Karawi from Morocco. In third place.
The festival’s activities will witness honoring the winners of the Golden Rhymes Award – Cycle 3 at Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi’s House, in addition to a poetry evening and poetry readings throughout the festival days, and an intellectual symposium entitled “Arabic Poetry from Constancy to Transformation” at the Palace of Culture.
