The rate of consumer spending in Saudi Arabia at points of sale increased within a week

The rate of spending on purchases through points of sale (POS) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia increased by 17.2% during the week of December 28 compared to the previous week.

The value of weekly sales through points of sale (POS) amounted to 13.83 billion riyals, compared to 11.8 billion riyals in the week ending December 21.

The number of transactions carried out through points of sale also increased by 7.9%, to 211.97 million transactions, compared to 196.49 million transactions in the previous week.

The sectors that witnessed the largest spending were the food and beverage sector, which recorded sales of 2.08 billion riyals through 49.6 million transactions, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector, whose spending amounted to 1.94 billion riyals through 59.67 million transactions.

The miscellaneous goods and services sector came in third place with sales amounting to 1.66 billion riyals through 22.37 million transactions, followed by the clothing and shoes sector with sales of 1 billion riyals through 7.3 million transactions.

Spending in the gas station sector also recorded 914.14 million riyals through 16.37 million transactions, while in the health sector it reached 853.56 million riyals through 8.43 million transactions, and in the transportation sector it reached 806.1 million riyals through 2.88 million transactions.

Geographically, Riyadh topped the spending list, with its total sales reaching 4.77 billion riyals, recording an increase of 12.4% over the previous week, through 67.65 million transactions. Jeddah came in second place with spending of 1.88 billion riyals, an increase of 13.4%, through 25.28 million transactions, then Dammam came in third place with spending amounting to 696.47 million riyals through 8.82 million transactions.
