It will last 6 days.. An official funeral for Jimmy Carter begins in Georgia

The six-day public farewell ceremony for former US President Jimmy Carter began today, Saturday, in southern Georgia.
A convoy carrying Carter’s coffin, covered with the American flag, departed from the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in the city of Americus.

His coffin was carried by former members of the Secret Service, who had protected the former president, and walked alongside the car transporting the body as it left the medical complex.

The Carter family, including his four children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will accompany their family patriarch in a procession that will carry his body through his beloved hometown of Plains, past his childhood home, on its way to Atlanta.

Carter died at his home in Plains on December 29 at the age of 100.

Families lined the parade route in downtown Plains, near the historic train station where Carter ran his presidential campaign.
Some carried bouquets of flowers, while others wore commemorative pins bearing Carter’s picture.
