Iran denies resuming uranium enrichment after the 12-day war

Ambassador Iran has International Atomic Energy Agency Reza Najafi said that his country did not appeal Uranium enrichment after the Israeli and American strikes that targeted some of its nuclear facilities in June 2025.
Najafi indicated in response to a question regarding the American accusations that led to the current conflict in the Middle East: "We have not resumed enrichment. It is a big lie, like any other lie"
During the Twelve Day War in June, Israel and the United States carried out strikes on major Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Natanz facility.
Najafi added: "They said that Iran was seeking to revive its nuclear program, even though there was no nuclear program in Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and even the American intelligence services themselves, confirmed this matter on several occasions."
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran is the only non-nuclear country that enriches uranium to 60%, which is close to the 90% required to produce a nuclear weapon.
Attacks on the Bushehr facility
The Iranian ambassador denounced the attacks on the Bushehr nuclear facility in southern Iran, describing them as "A flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law"
He added: "Even in times of war, it is prohibited to target facilities used by civilians, and such an attack is an extremely serious crime, a crime against humanity and a war crime."
He stressed that any potential radioactive leak would lead to water contamination and would push residents to evacuate their homes.
The International Atomic Energy Agency indicated on Saturday that Iran had reported 3 attacks on the plant within 10 days.
The UN agency charged with promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy added in a statement, citing Iranian officials. "No damage to the operating reactor or any radiation releases have been reported, and conditions at the plant are normal"
Calls for restraint
The International Atomic Energy Agency issued several calls for restraint to avoid the risk of an accident at Iranian nuclear sites.
Najafi said on Thursday that these positions are insufficient, and added: "As for the IAEA’s reaction, simply calling for calm does not mean anything, it means inaction".
