The general surgery team at Al-Darb General Hospital – one of the facilities in Jazan Health Cluster – was able to save the life of a patient who suffered an explosion, laceration and twisting in the left colon, with a cancerous mass measuring 10 cm.

Symptoms of the condition

The leader of the medical team, General Surgery Consultant, Dr. Alaa Hakmi, stated that the patient is 57 years old. He came to the emergency department and was suffering from severe and sudden abdominal pain, accompanied by chronic constipation, abdominal bloating, nausea and vomiting.
The medical team immediately conducted the necessary medical examinations, and it became clear that there was a mass in the descending colon, which led to the accumulation of fluids, and it was suspected that there was pus in the abdomen.

Successful surgery

She reported that the medical team decided to perform an urgent surgical operation, during which it was discovered that there was a tumor in the sigmoid colon that had exploded and adhered to the small intestine with the presence of pus in the abdomen. The tumor was completely removed after separating it from the organs attached to it, and the abdomen was cleaned of the pus. It was crowned with success, thanks to God, and he left. The patient was hospitalized after his recovery, praise be to God.
