Closing airports and schools…life continues to be disrupted in England due to the weather

Dangerous flooding ravaged parts of England, and hail forced the temporary closure of three airports on Tuesday. Rain and hail were expected to continue for another day, extending the travel chaos that has engulfed the UK since the start of the year.
Heavy rain fell on vast areas of the central part of England, and more than 200 warnings were issued at one point, as rivers overflowed and continued to submerge villages and farmland.
A severe warning has been issued indicating life-threatening conditions on the River Soar in Leicestershire.

Villages surrounded by muddy water

Aerial photographs showed homes in the village of Barrow upon Sur surrounded by muddy water, with the water reaching as high as the windows of one of the cars.
Several railway lines and major roads were closed due to rain and hail.

On Monday, rescuers evacuated people from flooded homes and broken down cars, as a cold and wet wave continued to disrupt life in parts of the United Kingdom.
While forecasts indicate a continuation of the winter weather wave.

Hundreds of schools closed

Hundreds of schools were closed on the first day of the 2025 semester, trains were halted and commuters were in trouble as parts of highways and major roads were closed due to rising water and snow, making driving dangerous, according to the Associated Press.
Flood warnings were issued in about 200 areas in England by Monday afternoon.
Many train lines were closed or experienced delays due to flood waters or trees falling on the tracks.

The coldest night the UK has ever seen

The coldest night the UK has seen this winter so far was recorded at Loch Glascarnoch, located between Ullapool and Inverness.
The temperature was recorded at 13.3 degrees Celsius below zero.
