Joseph Aoun is the new president of Lebanon

The Lebanese Parliament, in its second session on Thursday, elected Army Commander Joseph Aoun as president of the country after obtaining an absolute majority.
The hall was filled with loud applause after the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, announced Joseph Aoun as president of the country after obtaining 99 votes.
White smoke rose from the House of Representatives, and the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, became the fourteenth president of the Lebanese Republic, after a vacancy in the presidency that lasted more than two years.
Aoun won the support of 99 deputies, while nine deputies voted with a white paper, and 12 deputies voted with the “sovereignty and constitution” paper, and Shibli Mallat received two votes, while the canceled papers reached five.
The president-elect was born on January 10, 1964 in the Matn District. He obtained a degree in political science, specializing in international affairs, and a university degree in military sciences, and is fluent in French and English.
He volunteered in the army as an officer cadet and was enrolled in the Military College on May 19, 1983. He received many promotions until he reached the rank of general, and was appointed commander of the army on March 8, 2017.
