المملكة: Updating the speeds of the “Saudi-Oman” road in the Empty Quarter

The General Authority of Roads announced the update of speeds on the Saudi-Amman “Empty Quarter” road, as part of its efforts to maintain the level of advanced services commensurate with the capacity of the road network and enhance the experience of its users.
The authority explained in its statement that it raised the speed limit from 90 km/h to 110 km/h from the beginning of the Batha-Salwa Road intersection all the way to Shaybah Center, with a length of 356 km.
The speed was also raised from 90 km/h to 100 km/h starting from the center of Shaybah towards the Empty Quarter outlet, a distance of 10 km, while the speed limit will continue to be 90 km/h for the rest of the road segments, up to the Empty Quarter outlet, with a length of 196 km.
The Roads Authority stated that this update came after a study and review of the road sections, which showed that they achieve the declared operating speeds.
It is noteworthy that the Saudi-Oman road is one of the most important main roads due to its vital role in enhancing tourism and economic movement between the two countries, in addition to its service to the guests of God coming from the Sultanate of Oman.
The road is also considered an engineering marvel due to its construction in the Rub al-Khali desert amid complex terrain and technical difficulties.
