The World Health Organization previously revealed the total cumulative number of cholera infections reported since January 1, 2024, amounting to 486,760 infections and 4,018 deaths from 33 countries across five of the organization’s regions, representing an increase in deaths of 54% compared to deaths for the same period in 2023. .
The organization explained that conflicts, mass displacement, natural disasters and climate change have led to an increase in cholera outbreaks, especially in rural areas and areas affected by floods, and weak infrastructure and limited access to health care also delay treatment.
