Suhail Al Mazrouei: The UAE is the fastest growing market for clean and renewable energy sources in the region

Abu Dhabi, January 13 / WAM / His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said that the UAE’s investments in energy projects within the country confirm its commitment to contributing to the stability of global energy markets and achieving sustainable development.
He added that the energy scene in the UAE aims to achieve a strategic balance between traditional and clean energy sources, which represents a fundamental pillar within the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the occasion of the launch of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, His Excellency affirmed the UAE’s commitment to the goals of the Strategic Initiative for Climate Neutrality 2050 through ambitious renewable and clean energy projects, in addition to strengthening the country’s leadership in developing advanced infrastructure for energy transmission and distribution regionally and globally, pointing out The country continues its efforts to sustain the energy sector, diversify its sources, and advance the transition to clean energy, as the UAE is the fastest growing market for clean energy sources. and renewable at the region level.
He said that the UAE is moving forward towards achieving more achievements in the energy sector through solar energy projects, the National Program for Peaceful Nuclear Energy, hydrogen energy, waste-to-energy projects and other ambitious projects, and the country aims to reach a carbon-free future through employing advanced technologies and developing and employing technology. He pointed out that the new explorations that were announced contribute to enhancing oil and gas reserves to support national and global energy security, in addition to increasing the UAE’s production capacity, which contributes to strengthening its position as a reliable source of energy worldwide.
Regarding plans to increase electric car charging points nationwide, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei explained that a national policy has been developed to support the spread of electric and hybrid vehicles in the UAE and to activate pricing for fast and regular charging services to support investment in charger infrastructure.

He stated that the Ministry is currently working on standard specifications for fast and regular charging devices to ensure the quality of the devices used in the country, in addition to working on launching a guide for installing charging devices in the country’s infrastructure.
His Excellency pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company launched their joint project, “UAEV Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Company,” which aims to provide a fast and advanced infrastructure for electric vehicles throughout the Emirates and support the process of increasing charging stations in the country, with a focus on investments. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the number of current charging points for electric vehicles reached 1,000 by the end of 2024 at the state level, including 100 charging points installed by the company, adding that the goal is to increase the number of charging points at the state level. To 10,000 by 2030 and 30,000 charging points by 2050.
Regarding the UAE’s position in global competitiveness indicators in the energy sector, His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei said that the UAE, under the leadership’s guidance, achieved first places in 7 indicators of global competitiveness in the energy sector in 2024, which are “achieving first place globally in the 100% access to electricity index and first place globally.” In the 100% reliability of electricity supply index and first place globally in the index of access to clean cooking fuels, in addition to achieving first place globally in the competitiveness index in green hydrogen production and first place in Hydrogen market readiness index in the Middle East and North Africa region, second place globally in the per capita solar energy consumption index, and fifth place globally in the energy infrastructure index.
His Excellency stressed that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is working in cooperation with the relevant federal and local bodies to achieve sustainable development goals, through the implementation of a number of ambitious projects and initiatives that will support national energy-related industries such as petrochemicals, hydrogen and ammonia.
