The UN Humanitarian Coordinator visits eastern Ukraine and calls for international solidarity

Mr Fletcher held talks on Sunday with authorities in Zaporizhya, where he also visited the site where a missile hit a medical clinic last month, completely destroying the facility and causing civilian casualties, as well as an underground school that was built in just six months. To educate a thousand children every day.
In a video posted on the X platform during his visit to the school, Mr. Fletcher said: “I learned the word ‘toluca’, which relates to the way communities come together and support each other in times of crisis. That’s what’s happening here. Of course, people are tired and exhausted, but they don’t have the luxury of looking away, and neither do we.” [هذه الرفاهية]. “We need the universal sense of humanity of those living in these crises, under these bombs everywhere, and certainly here in Ukraine.”
According to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, Mr Fletcher today went to the front lines of the Donetsk region, where he praised the work of local first responders and NGOs. At a press conference in New York, Dujarric said: “Mr. Fletcher saw how the remaining communities in these areas are being supported by relief organizations, and how displaced people are receiving assistance at a transit center in the city of Baflorad, which is located in Dnipro.”
The Under-Secretary-General – who also holds the position of UN Emergency Relief Coordinator – is expected to visit Kharkiv. Together with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, he is scheduled to launch this year’s humanitarian and refugee response plan for Ukraine and the region on Thursday.
