The Arab League celebrates Arab Literacy Eradication Day

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States organized this year A celebration was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat on this occasion under the slogan "The future of adult education and learning in Egypt and the Arab world. In coordination and cooperation with the General Authority for the Eradication of Illiteracy and Adult Education in the Arab Republic of Egypt in its capacity as the state She initiated the launch of the Arab Decade for the Eradication of Illiteracy, which was adopted by the Arab Summit during the 25th session held in Kuwait in 2014 by declaring the current decade a decade to eradicate illiteracy throughout the Arab world and adopting an action program aimed at getting rid of this phenomenon within ten years (2015 – 2024).
The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in cooperation with its partners from Arab countries, regional and international organizations, as well as civil society organizations, held nine meetings over nine years with the aim of overcoming one of the most important challenges facing Arab countries, which is the elimination of illiteracy. The challenge does not only represent working to eradicate alphabetical illiteracy and familiarity with the principles of reading and writing, but this challenge includes working to eradicate Digital and cultural illiteracy to reach a society of knowledge and distinctive experiences for the general benefit and to be guided by them to document successful experiences, and to follow up on achieving the goals of the Arab Decade for Literacy and Adult Education 2015 – 2024, and we are now in the process of preparing a decision to launch the Second Arab Decade 2025-2030 in order to be in line with sustainable development plans.
The celebration will also include holding dialogue sessions with the participation of university professors and experts specialized in the field of adult education on the celebration’s slogan "The future of adult education and learning in Egypt and the Arab world" and the eradication of illiteracy It should not be limited to alphabetical illiteracy only, but it should also be concerned with eradicating digital illiteracy.
The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States believes that the future of adult education in the Arab world is witnessing remarkable development thanks to rapid technological and social changes. In light of technological development, digital means and e-learning have become one of the basic pillars of adult education, as it enables them to access knowledge and skills easily, which contributes to reducing The educational gap between generations. Future trends indicate that continuing education will become an essential part of individuals’ lives, whether through vocational training programs or university courses that provide opportunities to improve skills and enhance the ability to adapt to… Changing labor market requirements.
