The Heritage Authority adds more than 3,000 new sites to the urban heritage register
Most recently registered sites
The newly registered heritage sites included the following: the Riyadh region, 16 sites, the Makkah region, 8 sites, the Qassim region, one site, and the Eastern region, two sites, while 3,170 sites were registered in the Asir region, two sites in the Hail region, one site in the Najran region, and two sites in the Al-Bahah region.
This registration was based on the Antiquities and Urban Heritage System, and the decision of the Board of Directors of the Heritage Authority, which delegated to the CEO of the Authority the authority to register heritage and archaeological sites. With the aim of enhancing the protection of sites of historical and cultural value, and documenting them in a manner befitting their importance.
Strengthening national identity
Through this registration, the Authority seeks to expand and preserve the base of registered sites, while ensuring their sustainability and development. Thus, the Authority confirms its commitment to managing these sites with high efficiency, in a way that ensures the transmission of this rich heritage between generations, contributes to strengthening national identity, and highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in the life of society.
Reporting on heritage sites
The Heritage Authority called on citizens and residents to report heritage sites that may not be registered yet, within the framework of enhancing cooperation with the community, through the “Balagh” platform, in addition to its official accounts on social media, and its branches spread throughout all regions of the Kingdom, as means of Make it easier for everyone to contribute to this national work. The Authority stressed that community participation is a pivotal part of efforts to preserve national heritage, as reporting new sites contributes to expanding the scope of national heritage records, which supports the Authority’s efforts to protect and develop these sites.
