Trump signs his first official decisions after the inauguration.. What are they?
The White House announced that US President Donald Trump intends to withdraw again from the Paris Climate Agreement, and described this step in a statement as one of Trump’s priorities.
The White House said the withdrawal request should be submitted to the United Nations, and would take effect after one year.
Global warming
This means that the United States will largely withdraw from the international community’s fight against global warming.
Trump described the agreement as a disaster and a fraud on the United States.
The statement said that Trump’s goal is to end the “climate extremism” pursued by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Trump claims that global warming does not exist, and has repeatedly described climate change as a “hoax.”
Climate conferences
It is noteworthy that the Paris Climate Agreement aims to limit global warming to well below two degrees Celsius compared to the period before the industrial revolution, and ideally to one and a half degrees (1.5 degrees) only.
This goal was agreed at the UN climate summit in Paris in 2015, and has since been reaffirmed at several climate conferences.
The intention is to avoid the worst consequences of the climate crisis, such as frequent and severe heatwaves, droughts, wildfires, storms and floods.
