A 6.4-magnitude earthquake strikes Taiwan, leaving 27 injured

Taiwan’s Central Meteorological Administration said the earthquake occurred at 17:12 a.m. and its epicenter was 38 kilometers southeast of Chiayi County and at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Albumin strength and injuries
The US Geological Survey had previously reported that the intensity of the earthquake reached 6 degrees. There were scattered reports of minor to moderate damage in the cities of Chiayi and Tainan.
The Taiwan Fire Department said that 27 people were taken to hospitals to receive treatment for minor injuries, including six people who were rescued from a collapsed house in the Nanxi district of Tainan. There were reports that a bridge on a regional highway was damaged, and there were no reports of deaths, although Rescue workers are still assessing the extent of the damage.
The strongest earthquake in 25 years
In April, an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale struck the island’s mountainous east coast in Hualien, killing at least 13 people and injuring more than 1,000. The strongest quake in 25 years was followed by hundreds of aftershocks.
Taiwan is exposed to earthquakes due to its location in the “Ring of Fire” region, which witnesses intense seismic activity extending across Southeast Asia and the Pacific Basin.
