"The world will be in danger".. The last US-Russian nuclear treaty has expired

New START Treaty
The treaty limits "New Start" Signed in 2010, the two countries’ arsenals have a ceiling of no more than 1,550 strategic nuclear warheads for each, meaning a decrease of about 30 percent compared to the previous ceiling that was set in 2002.
The treaty also sets the maximum number of heavy bombers at 800 for each of the two countries, although this number is considered sufficient to destroy the Earth.
Russia announced in February 2023 Suspending its participation in the treaty without officially withdrawing from it, indicating that it will continue to respect the stipulated limits.
Obstructing inspections
Moscow had previously accused Washington of obstructing the inspections scheduled within the framework of "New Start" Which was suspended in the context of the war in Ukraine.
In September 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to Washington to extend the treaty for one year, and when Trump was asked about his response while boarding his helicopter, he said "That seems like a good idea". But the United States ultimately did not provide any response.
Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday "The Russian initiative is still on the table (…). We have not yet received a response from the Americans to this initiative".
