"ADNOC Distribution" and"Emerge" They cooperate to supply Abu Dhabi service stations with solar energy

ABU DHABI, 21 JANUARY / WAM / ADNOC Distribution announced the launch of the second phase of the project to supply service stations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with clean energy, through the installation of panels to generate electricity from solar energy, in cooperation with “Emerge” Company, which is a joint project between Abu Dhabi Energy Company. Future Masdar and EDF Group.
To complement the programme, Emerge will finance, design, install and maintain solar panels at all ADNOC Distribution service stations in the UAE.
This cooperation represents an important step for ADNOC Distribution towards achieving its sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions resulting from its operations and switching to renewable energy, at a time when the company is working to enhance the operational efficiency of energy use and reduce its costs, in addition to improving the energy mix in service stations, in line with With its goal to reduce the carbon intensity resulting from its operations by 25% by 2030.
In terms of commitment to achieving sustainability goals and integrating them into all business sectors, the program to convert ADNOC Distribution service stations to run on solar energy comes as part of the company’s commitment to achieving those goals, most importantly its adoption of sustainable financing solutions.
In January 2023, ADNOC Distribution converted a five-year loan worth $1.5 billion into a sustainability-linked loan. Sustainable loans, which include incentives/penalties linked to indicators of achieving sustainability goals, including the transition to solar and clean energy, with the aim of enhancing the financial and accounting sustainability of ADNOC Distribution. .
Engineer Badr Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, said that ADNOC Distribution is proud to cooperate with Emerge to supply service stations in Abu Dhabi with solar energy, based on the successes of the first phase of converting service stations in Dubai to run on solar energy during the past year.
He pointed out that integrating solar energy into ADNOC Distribution’s energy mix reflects its commitment to implementing the best sustainability practices, in support of achieving ADNOC Group’s ambitious goals and the UAE’s goals to reach net zero emissions.
For his part, Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, expressed his pride in launching the second phase of the project to install electricity generation panels from solar energy in 100 service stations in Abu Dhabi, stressing Emerge’s commitment to supporting institutions and companies in the UAE to achieve their related goals. Sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
During the first phase of the project, Emerge installed solar panels in ADNOC Distribution’s service stations, which allows the implementation of the installation of solar panels in them, which number 28 stations in the Emirate of Dubai.
By the end of 2024, this joint cooperation resulted in the generation of more than 6,300 megawatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,900 tons.
During the second phase, ADNOC Distribution, in cooperation with Emerge, will supply more than 100 service stations in Abu Dhabi with solar panels.
The panels to be installed are expected to produce approximately 30,000 megawatt-hours per year of renewable energy, which is enough to charge approximately one billion smartphones, and will contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 13,000 tons per year, equivalent to the amount of carbon they absorb. About 250 thousand tree seedlings over 10 years.
