Dubai Municipality enhances the emirate’s cultural outlook by planting 216,500 trees during 2024

Dubai Municipality announced the planting of about 216,500 trees during the year 2024, an increase of 17% compared to the year 2023, with a planting rate of about 600 trees per day.

The municipality also announced that the number of flowers and cosmetic plants planted reached 5.3 million seedlings, in addition to 45 million seasonal flowers that were replaced over three seasons during the past year. The number of Dubai Municipality projects for cosmetic agriculture, which contributed to enhancing Dubai’s leadership in the field of sustainability, reached 165 projects, targeting Through beautification, greening and planting of residential and urban areas, main and secondary roads, bridge intersections, as well as public parks and recreational facilities, And family squares, as part of the “Green Dubai Project,” which aims to increase the cultivated areas, raise their per capita share, and preserve its unique civilized appearance according to sustainable plans.

Badr Anwahi, Executive Director of the Public Utilities Corporation in Dubai Municipality, stressed the ongoing efforts to plant, beautify and green the Emirate of Dubai, saying, “The beautification agricultural projects implemented by Dubai Municipality are among the ongoing projects that confirm our commitment to improving the attractiveness and sustainability of the Emirate of Dubai, and to work according to comprehensive urban planning, which combines… Between applying modern agricultural practices based on the best environmental sustainability standards on the one hand, and enhancing the cultural, urban and aesthetic character that distinguishes the emirate’s uniqueness from “on the other hand.”

Dubai Municipality’s agricultural projects during the year 2024 included implementing agricultural works to beautify and green a number of major intersections and bridges, including; The intersections of Sheikh Zayed Road with Al Jamayel Street, Al Khawaneej Street, the intersections of Al Khail Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, Sheikha Latifa bint Hamdan Street, Al Maidan Street, and Umm Suqeim Street.

It also included the implementation of agricultural beautification projects on Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed, Al Ittihad, Dubai Al Ain, and some internal roads in residential areas, including; Al Mizhar, Al Barsha, Nad Al Hamar, Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif, Abu Hail, and Oud Al Muteena.

The trees planted by the municipality varied among the trees of the local environment, such as; Ghaf, Sidr, Samar, and other ornamental trees such as neem, olive, Indian jasmine, and palm trees, in addition to many other species that are characterized by being evergreen, including; Washingtonia, Bismarckia, Poussida, Poinciana, Pongamia, and Acacia franciana trees.

In addition, Dubai Municipality, through its programs in the field of cosmetic agriculture, is keen to follow the latest modern and sustainable agricultural technical practices, and to employ them in creating the integrated infrastructure for irrigation operations that operate according to a high-quality and efficient system that achieves significant savings in the quantities of water consumed, in addition to its full adoption Recycled water is used to irrigate projects, which contributes to enhancing the sustainability of environmental and natural resources.

In a related context, the Dubai Municipality nursery in the Warsan area produced during the year 2024 about 48 million and 130 thousand seedlings of various types, including seasonal flowers and ornamental trees, including trees of the local environment and other types of plants such as soil covers and plant fences, where the Dubai Municipality used 98 % of the nursery’s production of trees and plants in its agricultural projects and operations for greening and afforestation of the emirate during the past year.

Dubai Municipality’s initiatives in the field of afforestation and landscaping have contributed to creating a more sustainable, healthier and more beautiful environment in Dubai, as the number of trees planted annually increased from 35,666 trees in 2017 to 216,500 trees in 2024, while the green spaces under the municipality’s supervision have multiplied by 100 percent since 2011. %, bringing more than 52 million square meters of cultivated area in the emirate End of 2024.
