The House of Wisdom in Sharjah discusses cooperation with "Alexandria Library" And Egyptian cultural institutions

Alexandria, February 4 / WAM / A delegation from the House of Wisdom visited in Sharjah headed by Marwa Al -Aqroubi, Executive Director yesterday, the Library of Alexandria in the Arab Republic of Egypt in the framework of his endeavor to enhance cultural and knowledge relations between the two sides.

During the visit, the delegation met Dina Youssef, head of the library sector at the Library of Alexandria, which praised the role of Emirati cultural institutions in spreading culture and knowledge.

This visit comes on the sidelines of the delegation of the House of Wisdom, the activities of the Cairo International Book Fair in its 56th edition, and in the context of its keenness to expand partnership relations and cooperation with the actors in cultural and knowledge work inside and outside Egypt and exchange experiences with officials about the most famous regional and international libraries in a way that enhances the position of the Emirate of Sharjah and the state The United Arab Emirates in building a modern model of future libraries based on social interaction.

During its tour inside the Library of Alexandria, its various sections and museums, the delegation was briefed on the Museum of Antiquities, which includes ancient pieces of four times, starting from the ancient Egyptian era through the effects of the Ptolemaic and Roman eras, then the Coptic and Islamic Art halls and the “Life in the Other World” hall that display mummies, coffins and antique pieces dating back to The ancient Pharaonic ages, in addition to visiting the civilized panorama, which offers an interactive offer through nine digital screens for the history of Egypt through the various ages, along with the children’s libraries and the creation of the library sector.

Marwa Al -Aqroubi said: “We were pleased to visit the Library of Alexandria. In line with the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah, the capital of Arab culture, which seeks to consolidate the status of knowledge, a bridge for communication and openness to the world.

Among the most prominent stations included in the tour is the visit of the rare book library that contains a valuable group of the first Arab publications dating back to the early nineteenth century in addition to the dictionary of Ahmed Pasha Kamel, which is the Hergles-Arab-French dictionary consisting of 22 volumes and includes many languages ​​such as Coptic, Hebrew and Greek The Amorer and Assyrian, and the delegation of the House of Wisdom was keen to see this distinguished dictionary, which recently won the Ikrum-Sharjah Appreciation Award for Good practices in preserving and protecting cultural heritage in the Arab region.

On the sidelines of the visit, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and cognitive and cultural exchange between the House of Wisdom and the Library of Alexandria, and reviewed the opportunities available for joint work in multiple areas, especially the possibility of organizing joint exhibitions that highlight the cultural, knowledge and humanitarian heritage in addition to exchanging experiences in the field of preserving cultural heritage to ensure its preservation for future generations .

The delegation of the House of Wisdom also visited the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is preparing to open its doors officially during the second half of this year to be home to the greatest treasures of the Egyptian civilization and a center to host the most important cultural events.

The delegation discussed with those in charge of the museum the prospects for cooperation between the two sides, especially by organizing joint exhibitions and benefiting from the large library that will soon start receiving visitors in the museum.

The delegation also visited the headquarters of the Egyptian newspaper “Al -Ahram” and reviewed the huge archive available in the newspaper and ways to cooperate with the ancient press institution by providing digital copies of some of the archive contents for the members of the House of Wisdom and its visitors to serve the interested and researchers in the UAE and enrich the digital sources that are keen To update and expand it constantly.
