Battles between the army and the M24 movement .. a regional invitation to stop the war in the Congo

Southern and Eastern African leaders gathered on Saturday at the Tanzania summit called for a “immediate ceasefire” in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the army clashes with the armed M23 movement supported by Rwanda, which continues to march in the region.
A spokesman said that the leaders of the Defense Forces were assigned from the eight member states of the East Africa Group (EAC) and the 16 member states of the South African Development Group (SADC).
“The joint summit emphasized solidarity and fixed commitment to continuing the support of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in its efforts to protect its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the closing statement said.

War in the Democratic Congo

The summit, which was attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his Congolese counterpart Felix Cheskidi, through video technology, aims to find a solution to the conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo for more than three years and accelerated his pace in recent weeks.

Since the beginning of the conflict in 2021, six Hadatat and ceasefire agreements have been signed before they were violated systematically.
The summit was held after the kidnapped seizure of Guma, the capital of the northern Kivu region, by the anti -government armed group M23 and the Rwandan forces.

Since the fall of Gouma last week after violent clashes and sharp deterioration in the catastrophic humanitarian conditions, the battles have moved to the neighboring southern Kivu region.
The panic and panic prevailed in the capital of the region, Bocafo, and battles occurred 70 km from it on Friday, according to security and local sources, closed banks and schools and left for many residents.
