Dubai, February 9 / WAM / Dubai Electricity and Water Authority announced the use of a cubic meter unit instead of the imperial gallon to measure the volume of water consumption, as of the billing cycle for the month of March 2025.
This comes in implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. 85 of 2023, and in compliance with Ministerial Resolution No. 43 of 2024, issued by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology regarding the cancellation of work in the gallon unit in water meters in the country.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, Managing Director, CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that the authority is keen to comply with local and international regulatory requirements to ensure that its services are accompanied by the highest quality, competencies, reliability and availability standards, explaining that the adoption of the cubic meter as a unified and recognized unit is internationally recognized instead of the imperial gallon, It represents an important step towards enhancing alignment with international best practices, and contributes to facilitating normative comparisons between different sectors.
It is noteworthy that the current smart meters installed in dealers are already compatible with the cubic meter measurement system, and there will be no need to change them.
The authority will begin to include both units, “Cubes and Gallis” in the water bills and data board for customers, in preparation for the permanent approval of the new unit from the billing cycle for the month of March 2025.
