The fifth forum for the University Guidance Center at Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal University, which was held under the slogan “Towards a safe educational environment”, focused on “behavioral controversy” as one of the latest treatment interventions to deal with the phenomenon of bullying, stressing the importance of these interventions in protecting students and providing a supportive environment for their growth and collection Academic.
He aimed to raise awareness about this phenomenon, discuss ways to address it, and provide a safe educational environment for students.
Bullying is one of the largest students ’threats to education
Dr. Abeer Rashid, a psychological advisor, a Clinic supervisor and director of the University Guidance Center at Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal University, stressed the danger of bullying and harm in the educational environment, noting that they are considered one of the biggest threats to students around the world. Noting that confronting these practices has a great impact on the student’s survival in his educational environment and preventing male and female students from leaking from the educational level, whether they are schools, institutes or universities due to the lack of security.
Dr. Rashid explained that many students hesitate to report that they are bullying for fear of blame or lack of ratification, stressing the importance of educating the guides and teachers on how to deal with these cases and provide the necessary support to students.
She stressed the need to put strict behavior controls in all educational institutions to confront bullying in all its forms, and to take firm measures against everyone who threatens the security and safety of students.
Dr. Rashid added that the forum reviewed the latest treatment interventions to deal with the phenomenon of bullying, such as the interventions of behavioral controversy, with the aim of protecting the educational environment and providing a supportive environment for students ’growth and academic achievement.
She pointed out that the University Guidance Center is working to keep pace with the latest phenomena that affect students, and seeks to provide the necessary support and guidance to help them overcome the challenges facing them in their educational career.


Bullying and post -traumatic disorder
Mansour Asiri, a psychotherapist at Al -Amal Hospital, stressed that not everyone who is bullying has a PTSD, indicating that the percentage of people with this disorder does not exceed 5% of bullying victims.
Asiri pointed out that people who suffer from post -traumatic disorder often avoid facing shock, which exacerbates the problem and its appearance in different life situations. For example, the person who has been bullying in its form may be avoided in public places or attending meetings, and it may extend to avoid riding the car if the place of bullying is narrow.
Psychiatric treatments for bullying
And that there are effective psychological treatments available to help bullying victims to recover from shocks. Among these treatments are cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy, which aims to help the patient understand shock and develop mechanisms to deal with them.
He stressed that many of the bullying victims tend to blame themselves for what happened to them, which complicates the recovery process. He explained that psychotherapy plays an important role in correcting these wrong beliefs and enabling the patient to integrate into life normally.
On the effect of shock on the patient, Asiri explained that some stimuli, such as colors, places, or even situations, may suddenly bring the patient memories of the trauma, which leads to the trauma experience again. In severe cases, it may lead to a kind of separation from reality.
Asiri called for the need to raise awareness of the dangers of bullying and provide psychological support to its victims, stressing that early intervention helps to prevent the development of the problem and reduce its negative effects.
Asiri stressed the importance of remembering that bullying is not merely a “joke”, but rather an aggressive behavior that has severe consequences for the psychological health of the victim.
The role of the family to protect the child from bullying
For his part, Dr. Muhammad bin Ahmed Al -Zahrani, assistant professor in psychological guidance and counseling at Imam Abdul Rahman Al -Faisal University, affirmed the pivotal role of the family in protecting the child from bullying.
He explained that the family is the first nucleus that constitutes the child’s personality and develops his self -confidence, stressing the importance of providing a supportive family environment that enhances the mental health of the child and avoids exposure to any negative factors that may affect his psychological balance.
He warned of the danger of verbal or physical abuse against the child, stressing that phrases such as “God, but my parents do not know” cause deep psychological pain for the child and lose confidence in his parents.
He called on families to open effective communication channels with their children, and encourage them to express their feelings and their fears freely, in order to report any incidents that are going through they are exposed to, and thus help them overcome this ordeal.
Al -Zahrani stressed the need for the family to deal with bullies with consciousness and rationality, and to provide the necessary support to the child to help him restore his self -confidence and overcome the effects of this negative experience.
