The UAE Central Bank won the “Best Cash Edition of the year 2025” of the 500 dirhams in the European region, the Middle East and Africa.
The announcement of the award came during the “High Security Printing Emea” conference, which was held in the Swiss city of Basel in early February 2025, where the 500 dirham monetary paper is characterized by a design that reflects the UAE’s march in the field of Sustainability, and the firm central bank’s commitment to enhancing sustainable solutions in Financial sector.
This new achievement of the central bank comes as part of its keenness to use the latest technical specifications and advanced security marks in the design of the new 500 dirham banknote, which is characterized by 3D designs, advanced security features and modern technologies. The Central Bank used these technologies in the category of 1000 dirhams as well, which won the “Best Cash Edition of 2023” award, which confirms the leadership of the UAE as the first country in the Middle East region to use the largest number of chips in its cash papers.
This banknote is printed from the third version by the “Security Printing Printing Company”, which is affiliated with the central bank, and entered into use on November 30, 2023.
This version comes in line with the vision of the rational leadership to accelerate the process of shift towards the green economy to ensure a future based on sustainable development. In a strategic step towards promoting sustainability, the central bank chose polymer in the manufacture of new banknotes, as it is more durable and sustainable than traditional banknotes, and this material is completely recycling, thus reducing its impact on the environment.

The central bank also included prominent symbols by “Brail” to help customers of the blind and visually identify the banknotes and determining its value.
