35 thousand cases of cholera in 19 countries around the world, including Sudan and Yemen

According to the organization, the African region recorded the highest number of cases, followed by the eastern Mediterranean and Southeast Asian region. The period also witnessed 349 deaths related to cholera worldwide, 46 deaths in Sudan, highlighting a 33% decrease from the previous month.

Although the seasonal decrease in the transmission of infection during the winter months may partially explain the decrease in the number of cases in some areas, the total cholera data remains incomplete due to the lack of reporting and delay in it. In January, the production of oral cholera vaccines reached 6.2 million doses, reflecting the great efforts made by suppliers and partners.

The World Health Organization explained that this progress is caused by offering and rehabilitating the composition of a new vaccine and manufacturing process earlier in 2024. However, the current production has not yet met the growing global demand yet, and the demand continues to exceed the supply, which hinders the efforts made to control cholera outbreak , And the rapid response to the spread of the disease, and the implementation of preventive campaigns.

According to the World Health Organization, conflicts, collective displacement, disasters caused by natural risks and climate change have condensed disease outbreaks, especially in rural areas and areas affected by floods, where weak infrastructure and limited access to health care are delayed. These cross -border factors have made cholera more complicated and difficult to control it.
