Abu Dhabi University hosts the international meeting of sustainable leaders, February 26 and 27

Abu Dhabi, February 21 / WAM / Abu Dhabi University hosts the first international meeting of sustainability leaders in cooperation with the world rankings of universities “UI Greenmetric”, a classification that measures the extent of universities ’commitment around the world to environmental sustainability, on February 26 and 27 on the campus of Abu Dhabi University with the virtual presence option .
The forum – in which a constellation of global sustainability leaders and pioneers is involved as well as experts and specialists in this field and a group of higher education institutions – to explore innovative strategies to enhance the goals of the sustainable development of the United Nations in the academic field.
The forum has the support of the Environment Authority – Abu Dhabi, along with more than 10 international universities and representatives from various sectors and international bodies concerned with classifications and is held under the title “Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education: reviewing the experience of the University of Abu Dhabi and its impact on society.”
The forum provides a platform for the participants to discuss the role of higher education and its contribution to supporting the sustainable development goals in the UAE and the world in general. It embodies the high performance of the University of Abu Dhabi and its advanced rank on the ladder of the global “UI Green Metrick” classification for universities for the year 2024 after the university ranked 344 out of 1477 institutions Academy around the world, and the second place in the UAE is ahead of 15 places compared to the previous year.
Professor Ghassan Awad, Director of Abu Dhabi University, emphasized the pivotal role of academic institutions in building sustainable societies, and from this standpoint is keen to integrate the principles of sustainability in all aspects of their work such as research, teaching and daily university life, thus enhancing a culture of environmental responsibility and providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to face global challenges .
He said: “We aspire through these initiatives to contribute effectively to preparing future leaders and enabling them to make positive changes and develop innovative solutions and contribute to building a sustainable future and is able to adapt to the challenges and meet everyone’s needs.”
The attendees participate, throughout the two days of the event, in a group of rich sessions that include major words, interactive forums and dialogues with experts and specialists, all highlighting the pioneering role of countries in developing sustainable urban development, while addressing the strategies of achieving carbon neutrality, and innovative ways to enhance the green economy.
The forum will host sustainability experts, policy makers and academics known from the “UI Green Metrick” network and others who review their ideas and valuable visions in developing and applying sustainability policies and programs that achieve sustainable environmental and social effects.
The event provides a platform for the participants to present their views, strengthen the wider sustainability agenda and support global sustainable development goals.
