Declaration of a state of emergency in the Spanish police because of the “Madrid derby”

More than 1900 police and emergency men from various units are scheduled to participate in a large -scale security operation prepared by the government delegation in the Spanish capital Madrid, where it aims to secure the 16th round of the upcoming Champions League match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, which will be held at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Tuesday.

Derby Madrid is receiving special attention, given the great competition between the two teams locally and European, as this security process will focus on monitoring the areas surrounding the Santiago Bernabeu stadium to ensure the prevention of any possible incidents, and will include teams from the police rapid intervention unit, the specialized horsemen unit, and the regional information brigade of the National Police, in addition to members of the Madrid municipal police.

These measures will also include firefighters and health care crews from the Red Cross, as well as the security personnel of the “Royal” club.

Real Madrid is historically superior in the European confrontations between them after it had previously beat Atletico in the tournament final in 2014 and 2016, while it was defeated in the quarter -finals in 2015 and the semi -final in 2017.
