Al-Ahly bids farewell to the African Champions League after losing to Esperance of Tunisia

Al-Ahly of Egypt, the most successful club in the African Champions League, exited the tournament after losing 3-2 to its guest Esperance of Tunisia in the second leg of the quarter-finals today, Saturday.

Esperance advanced to the semi-finals after winning 4-2 on aggregate after defeating the first leg at home 1-0.

Al-Ahly advanced with a goal in the tenth minute scored by Mahmoud Hassan (Trezeguet) from a cross pass inside the Esperance penalty area from the right side, sent by Aliou Dieng, and Trezeguet met it with a shot that hit the defense and then went to him again and he shot it to the left of the goal.

Florian Danho equalized for Esperance in the 68th minute, before Mohamed Amin Togay gave Esperance the lead in the 78th minute from a penalty kick.

Hamza Al-Galasi equalized for Al-Ahly by mistake in his own net after a header from Al-Ahly player Marawan Othman collided with him before hitting the net in the 84th minute.

But Al-Jalasi was able to compensate for this mistake by scoring the winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time in the second half, from a strong header following a corner kick carried out by Youssef Al-Masakani.
Esperance will play in the semi-final against the winner of the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Stade Mali.
