Who is Mark Carney? The new Prime Minister of Canada and veteran economist

The official results announced the victory of Mark Carney, the economist and former central bank governor, in the race against the rule of the ruling liberal party in Canada, thus becoming the new Prime Minister of Canada to succeed Justin Trudeau. Carney overcame Christia Freeland, the former finance minister, who came in second place, in elections in which more than 150,000 members of the liberal party participated.
Bus economic march
Carney, 59, is a prominent economic figure on the international scene. He led the Central Bank of Canada during the global financial crisis in 2008, and contributed to the Canadian economy quickly compared to many other countries. In 2013, he became the first non -British person to head England since its foundation in 1694, where he praised his performance in the United Kingdom.
Great challenges waiting for Carney
Carney is the position at a time when Canada is facing economic challenges, among them the threats of the American customs duties imposed by US President Donald Trump, along with the continued high food and housing prices and increased immigration rates, issues that contributed to the decline in the popularity of Justin Trudeau, which prompted him to declare his resignation last January.
His next political steps
Despite his lack of direct political experience, Carney has received widespread support from the ministers and members of Parliament since he announced the candidacy, and he is expected to call for early elections as soon as he took the position, either by announcing it officially or through a vote to block confidence that the opposition may seek in Parliament.
With the approaching federal elections, Mark Carney faces a great challenge to persuade voters to his ability to lead the country during this critical stage, amid intense competition with other parties that seek to overthrow the liberal party of government.
