Sharia pledges to hold those responsible for the bloody events if they were “the closest people”

The interim Syrian president, Ahmed Al -Shara, said that the mass killings of members of the Alawite sect to which the ousted President Bashar al -Assad belongs to a threat to his efforts to reunite the war -torn country, and pledged to punish those responsible for it even if they were “the closest” to him.
In the first interview with a global news agency, four days after the violent clashes between members of the Alawite sect and security forces affiliated with the new government, Sharia held groups loyal to Assad supported by foreigners responsible for igniting bloody events, but he admitted that revenge killings occurred in the wake of this.
Sharia was speaking to Reuters from the presidential palace in Damascus.
“Syria, we have confirmed that it is a state of law. The law will take its course on everyone,” Sharia said.
He added, “We are primarily in the face of this system and we did not reach Damascus except in support of the oppressed people … We do not accept that there is a drop of blood that is not right or that this blood goes in vain without accountability or punishment. Whatever it is even if it is the closest people to us and the most distant people to us.
In an interview with many files, Sharia also said that his government had not made contact with the United States since President Donald Trump took office. He repeated Washington’s appeal to lift the sanctions imposed on Damascus during the Assad era.
He also proposed the possibility of restoring relations with Moscow, which supported Assad throughout the war and is trying to maintain two important military bases in Syria.
Sharia rejected Israel’s criticism, which seized lands in southern Syria since the overthrow of Assad. He said that he has been seeking differences with the Kurds, including by meeting with the commander of the Kurdish -led Syrian Democratic Forces and supported by Washington.
Al -Shara held a previous military unit loyal to the Assad brother and foreign forces responsible for the outbreak of violence in the past days, but he admitted that “many parties entered the Syrian coast and many violations occurred.”
He said that this “has become an opportunity to take revenge” from pent -up grievances for years, but added that the situation has been largely contained since then.
Al -Shara said that 200 members of the security forces were killed in turmoil.
