المملكة: The launch of a geological academy that enhances Earth sciences and training

It includes 3 axes: e -learning, scholarship and scientific research
The first stage targets the staff of the Authority, who number 800 employees

After the Saudi Geological Survey Authority announced the launch of the Academy of the Geological Survey Authority, specialists explained during their talk to “Today” that the first academy of its kind in the Kingdom with its unique specialization in Earth sciences cooperating with prominent Saudi universities and electronic educational platforms, with the aim of developing national competencies and enhancing scientific research in the fields of geology, through specialized programs targeting employees, students and interested people from inside and outside the Kingdom.
The Director General of the Human Resources Sector at the Authority, Abdul Hadi Al -Mawdan, explained that the academy will cooperate with the universities of King Abdulaziz, King Saud, King Fahd Petroleum and Minerals, and Kaost University, as well as the governmental platform for e -learning as a supportive partner. The Academy will include three main axes: e -learning – scholarship and development programs – scientific research programs.

Academy programs and paths

Al -Mawdan pointed out that the first stage will target all 800 employees of the commission, to extend in the second stage of male and female students within a year to two years, up to the third stage, which will be open to those interested in the world.
The Academy will also offer more than 100 diverse training programs, ranging from hours, days, months, and up to two years, and includes internal and external programs across Saudi universities or electronic platforms. He stressed that this initiative seeks to develop employee skills in line with the authority’s strategy, to enable it to compete globally in its future projects.

Geology science in Saudi Arabia

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Saudi Geology”, Professor Abdulaziz bin Gaboun, indicated that the Kingdom has witnessed a major development in the field of geology compared to the past, as there was no specialist in geological space in the past.

With the state’s interest in this field, geology science has spread in theory and practical, through books, scientific magazines, Aglas and maps, in addition to field survey operations that revealed the fortunes of the Arab Shield from fiery, transformation and ancient linguistic rocks, which contain various minerals.

Earth’s wealth

Bin Abun added that applied geology contributed to the discovery of thousands of sites of mineral geological and economic importance, noting that the Kingdom is a geological continent due to the diversity of its terrain, minerals and economic elements.
He stressed that theoretical science places the basis, while it is the field work that reveals the real wealth of the land, which enhances the Kingdom’s position as an economic power in this field.
