Putin agrees in principle to America’s “truce” and set conditions for stopping the fighting in Ukraine

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his approval in principle to a 30 -day US ceasefire proposal in Ukraine, but the conditions should be worked on, and stressed that this path should be paved towards a permanent peace.

“The idea itself is correct, and we are definitely supporting it. But there are issues that we need to research, and I think we need to discuss it with our American colleagues and partners,” Putin said at a press conference in Moscow.

Putin indicated the need to set a mechanism to control potential violations of the truce. He said that another issue is whether Ukraine would try to use the ceasefire to continue mobilizing its soldiers and re -armament.

“We agree with the proposals to stop the fighting, but we will work with the assumption that the ceasefire leads to a permanent peace and remove the radical causes of the crisis,” Putin said.

Putin pointed out that while it seems that the United States has convinced Ukraine to accept the ceasefire, Ukraine is interested in this because of the current situation in the battlefield, explaining that the Ukrainian forces that penetrated into the Russian Corsc region will be completely stopped within the coming days.

Putin thanked US President Donald Trump for his “great interest in settling the situation in Ukraine.” “I think we need to talk about these matters with our American partners … and perhaps a phone call with President Trump and discuss the matter with him.”

Russia said it would not accept peacekeepers from any NATO member (NATO) to monitor a possible truce.
