Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi looks at the Al -Qasimi Al -Basri Radical Observatory project

Sharjah, March 20 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, President of Sharjah University, briefed this afternoon, Thursday, at the Sharjah Academy of Space and Astronomy Science and Technology, on the project of the Al -Qasimi Al -Basri Radical Observatory project, which is proposed to be established on Jabal Al -Kitab.

The presentation dealt with the vision of the future Al -Qasimi Observatory to be a scientific facility and a national symbol of excellence and innovation, investing in building national cadres and inaugurating bridges of international cooperation, and setting the foundations for a scientific renaissance worthy of the state’s position and aspirations in exploring the universe.

The Al Qasimi Observatory, which is the first astronomical observatory, is registered and licensed for satellite activities in the country to carry out tracking, monitoring and awareness services for the space status, on the largest optical telescope in the Arab Gulf region, which is the latest at the level of the Arab world within three basic monitoring stations covering the research of stars and external planets and studying the formation of stars and galaxies using spectral analysis, in addition to enhancing public education and supporting researchers, and monitoring Astronomer through general activities and practical scientific workshops.

The Al Qasimi Observatory is distinguished in its focus on monitoring the southern sky and filling the scientific gap in this field, as well as its other goals in the field of scientific research and astronomical discoveries, and the Observatory’s goals are compatible with the strategy of the University of Sharjah (Edge) in resettlement, digitization, international cooperation and entrepreneurship.

His Highness, President of Sharjah University, reviewed the presentation of the cubic satellite laboratory, which included a number of its specialized scientific goals, its contribution to building national capabilities, encouraging innovation, developing technical and scientific skills for workers, where the laboratory focuses on the design and operation of satellite, developing technical expertise, and developing talents through investing in capacity building programs.

The presentation also dealt with the scientific achievements achieved by the cubic satellite laboratory and the current projects it works on such as: Sharjah Sat-1, Sharjah Sat-2, published scientific research, capacity building for specialized human cadres, installation of ground stations, and a number of future projects in the laboratory plan until the year 2031 AD.

His Highness witnessed the presentation of the meteorite laboratory, and the units that make up them: the Emirates Monitoring Network and the meteorite analysis unit, the meteorite group and cut the meteorite effect in the laboratory, as well as statistics on research, studies and students training, and delegations visits to the laboratory, which contains 8111 pieces of meteorites, cut the meteorite effect, other elements, and laboratory publications.

The presentation dealt with a set of upcoming meteorite laboratory projects that include: the meteorite law in the country, the development of the Emirates Monitoring Network, the affected meteorite processing, the method of displaying meteorites and pieces, and the development of meteorite analysis equipment, in addition to the cooperative initiatives of the laboratory with the various parties.

The offers concluded with the achievements of the Sharjah astronomical dome, which varied between developing new direct offers and managing them using specialized astronomical simulation programs with direct narration, and other offers with various topics such as: polar twilight, cosmic clouds, international space station, violent cosmic phenomena, moon and Hijri calendar.

The presentation also contained the new events in the Sharjah astronomical dome and participation in various local and international occasions, as well as a number of development projects that it provides to enhance its role in societal awareness.
