The Lebanese President condemns attempts to lure his country again to the cycle of violence

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned “attempts to lure Lebanon again to the cycle of violence”, following the developments in the south, and Israel declared the interception of three missiles that it was fired from Lebanon.
A statement issued by the Presidency of the Lebanese Republic stated that Aoun called “to avoid any repercussions and control any violation or reason that could threaten the country in these delicate circumstances.”
The statement added that Aoun asked the commander of the army, General Rudolf Heikal, “taking the necessary field measures to maintain the safety of citizens, and to investigate the circumstances of what happened.”
In turn, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned of renewed military operations on the southern border. In a statement, he stressed “the necessity of taking all necessary security and military measures, which confirms that the state alone has the decision of war and peace.”
He contacted the personal representative of the Secretary -General of the United Nations in Lebanon, Janine Blaskart, calling on the United Nations to “double international pressure on Israel to withdraw from the occupied Lebanese territories completely, because of the violation of this occupation of international decision 1701, and the arrangements for stopping the hostilities approved by the previous government last November, and Lebanon is committed to.”
