Violent earthquake with a power of 6.7 degrees hit New Zealand

Violent earthquake measuring 6.7 in the ocean off the coast of the main southern island of New Zealand, according to the US Seismological Observatory.

The US Geological Survey said that the earthquake occurred at 14,43 (01:43 GMT) at a depth of 10 km and a hundred kilometers of southern island.

The earthquake center is 160 km from the nearest inhabited village on the southern island.

The American Geological Survey was initially estimated at seven degrees on the Richter scale before it reduced it to 6.8 and then to 6.7 degrees.

There was no warning of the risk of tsunami as a result of the earthquake.

“Based on all available data … there is no risk of a tsunami due to this earthquake,” said the Early Tsunami Center in the Pacific Ocean.

For its part, the New Zealand Emergency Management Agency urged the area to avoid going to the beach due to the risk of “strong and unusual currents.”

And New Zealand on the Tiktouni rift line witnesses thousands of weak earthquakes every year.

In 2011, a 6.3 -magnitude earthquake killed 185 people in the city of Krayesch, also located on the southern island.
