Head of the European Commission: Together we will always defend Europe by facing American tariffs

Brussels on April 1/ WAM/ Ursula von der Line, President of the European Commission, warned that “all options on the table” in response to Washington’s approach to the imposition of customs tariffs and said that the European Union does not want an economic struggle but has “the ability to respond.”
Von der Line stressed during the plenary session of the European Parliament, which discussed the interactive trade confrontation between the two banks of the Atlantic and its potential economic repercussions on the pace of exchanges between the European Union and the United States that the European Union is “open to negotiations” with the United States, but it confirmed that the bloc “will deal from the position of strength” due to the size of the European Union and its economic strength.
Regarding the threat of American tariffs, the European Commission President said that “Europe has not started” the economic confrontation and believes it is “wrong”, noting that the European Union will do everything to protect its economy and that he has “the ability to respond” and added: “Together we will always defend Europe.”
While the President of the European Commission confessed to the assurances of US President Donald Trump that some parties had “took advantage of” this last amplifier, she warned that customs definitions would nourish inflation only and risk jobs through the “bureaucratic monster”.
She said that the European Union “will strengthen the unified market” and will respond to American tariffs advertisements with a “calibration response.”
She added: “We believe that this confrontation is not in the interest of anyone” and Europe did not start this confrontation and we do not necessarily want revenge and pointed to the value of the unified market open to the European Union for decades and its benefits to the United States and the broader world and said that this must be protected.
She explained that the European Union has trade deals with 76 countries and said that the unified market is the “safe haven” of the European Union in a world facing a “stormy economy”.
