A UN report monitors the repercussions of the “Promotion and Prevention of Vice” law in Afghanistan

The report concluded that the de facto powers show a clear insistence on applying their vision of a strict Islamic system at a national level.
This resulted in concrete social and economic repercussions, which included restricting individual freedoms, narrowing the access of women and girls to public places and health care, as well as imposing strict restrictions on dress and movement.
The report also documented the effects of these policies on vital sectors such as business, health and education, as well as their repercussions on the freedom of the media.
The report stated that the direct and indirect social and economic effects of law are likely to exacerbate the deteriorating economic and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, including the ability of the United Nations agencies, funds, programs, national and international NGOs to provide humanitarian aid and meet the basic humanitarian needs of millions of people across Afghanistan.
The mission indicated that the UN Security Council in its decision No. 2777 (2025) regarding Afghanistan expressed its deep concern about the increasing erosion of respect for human rights and basic freedoms, especially for women and girls, and their lack of equal opportunities in education, work, justice and economic opportunities, full, equal and purposeful participation in public life, freedom of movement, and the enjoyment of basic services.
He said that this makes achieving peace, stability and prosperity in the country far. The Council affirmed its call to Taliban to retreat quickly from these policies and practices, including the matter related to “vice and virtue”.
