المملكة: The “sensory room” facilitates the experience of children with disabilities at King Khalid Airport

The initiative of the sensory room for children with disabilities in the internal travel hall 5 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh came within the framework of the great efforts made by the state – may God bless him – in providing various services to persons with disabilities, as the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques – may God protect him – is keen to support many national initiatives that serve the members of this group.
The initiative aims to improve the experience of traveling children with disabilities and their families through the capital airport, and in the context that the airports are prepared and compatible with the needs of persons with disabilities in all their categories, because of this direct relationship to enhancing the opportunities to empower and integrate members of this group into society.

Entertainment means

The sensory room is equipped with entertainment, tools and educational devices that simulate different natural environments, and stimulates the various senses such as the sense of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, to allow children with disabilities to feel communicating with the environment around them and learn more about it.
This room aims to facilitate the experience of traveling for children with disabilities and their families, helping them relax and spend a fun time in a safe environment.

A safe and equipped environment

The initiative contributes to enabling and integrating persons with disabilities, facilitating their experience at the airport, and improving the services provided to them.
And the “sensory room” represents a particularly equipped safe environment. The tools and devices available in them are controlled to stimulate the various senses of the individual: look, hearing, touch, taste and smell, and it can provide pleasure and relaxation for users.
This initiative is the first of its kind for children with disabilities in the airports of the Middle East, as children with disabilities and their families face difficulties and challenges during their travel through airports.
